We are the experts of our own bodies.
We have the responsibility of taking care of our bodies.
We treat our bodies with respect and acknowledge that there
is no perfect size or body type.
Our bodies change continually, with the biggest changes
occurring during adolescence, pregnancy, and menopause.
We believe that no one has the right to comment on our bodies.
We trust that our bodies will give us cues about what it
needs.
With many years of dieting, most of us have lost touch with
our bodies so it will take time to learn how to listen and
differentiate the different cues. In the past you may have
responded to all body cues with food. The food gives temporary
relief but does not really satisfy the need. Eventually
the pounds start adding up because food has been used as
the answer for everything. Bodies have needs for food, drink,
rest, activity, movement, relaxation, sex, and sleep.
Throughout the program you will learn how to recognize your
body's needs and discover how you can respond more accurately
to them. When this happens food will no longer be used to
satisfy nonphysical hungers, you will eat more consciously
and the weight will come off and stay off.
It is hard for many women to look at their whole bodies.
Touching their bodies is the last thing they want to do.
We know that it is important to look at the whole body and
to touch the body because it helps us to connect with our
bodies.
Lasting change cannot happen in a hostile environment. If
you hate or despise your body, you will not care about your
body. Caring about your body is an essential part of Conscious
Eating. If you do not care how your body feels, you
will not make the necessary changes in your behaviors, thoughts,
and feelings toward your body to support change. It won't
matter what you feed it or how much you feed it. You will
just continue to ignore your body and eat unconsciously
which leads to more weight gain.
Creating a loving environment in your body focuses on respect
and appreciation for what your body does for you, in spite
of what you do to it.
Critical to the success in this program is the connection
you will make with your body allowing you to assess how
your body feels at any given moment.
Being aware of how your body feels requires that you to
BE IN YOUR BODY. Being in your body takes practice so we
will begin each session with a few minutes of quieting the
mind and being in your body.
We believe that trusting the body is an important key to
permanent weight loss.
